Which is More Dangerous? AC or DC -And Why? – ICEEET

Many of us think that the shock intensity of AC and DC voltage will be the same. Again, many people feel that the DC current shock will be higher than the AC current. Because it is easy to isolate yourself at AC Current A frequency but it is not possible in DC.

But the real information is that AC current shock is more intense and more deadly and it is because of that frequency. Let’s see the reason behind this.

Electric shock is the kind of feeling that occurs when a current flows through a part of our body. The extent of this shock depends on a number of factors. Such as current type (DC / AC), frequency, voltage levels, flow through any part of the body, during flow. AC shock of 50 / 60Hz is 5 times higher than DC.

ac or dc - which is more dangerous

Again the AC shock of 50 / 60Hz is 5000Hz Its AC current is 6 times higher and the shock rate decreases as the frequency increases.

This is because the brain sends electrical signals to low frequencies through our brain nerves for movement. The human heart again vibrates at a frequency of 60-100 bpm (bit per minute) which reaches the heart through an electrical signal from the brain. So the current shock of 50-60Hz is more felt because it directly impedes the signaling of the nervous system!

As a result, you lose control of your muscles in a certain amount of current flow.

In that case, you cannot free yourself from electrified matter, even if you wish. And a certain amount of current flow of 50-60Hz through the heart will ruin your heart’s regular vibration, resulting in death at a cardiac arrest.

So always beware of 50-60Hz AC current. Another reason why AC voltage is similar to DC current of equal voltage is that it acts as a skin and ground capacitance on the human body. Because of this quality, AC current can flow easily from the skin to the ground but the DC current is more than obstructed.

If you look at the chart below you will find that the current AC current is more dangerous. 150One pound-weight man has a 62mA DC current for painkiller shock, which is only 9mA enough for AC. If the frequency is 10KHz then it will be 55mA.

ac or dc - which is more dangerous

The current flow is 99% of the total body resistance in the skin. Where the Dry Resistance of the Human Body 100000 ohm there is only 300-ohm resistance inside the body. If the current flows through the body due to any damage to the skin, the amount will be large and the shock will be dangerous. High voltage AC and DC both cause skin breakdown and excessive current flows through the body, which is dangerous.

And one thing you all know is that AC voltage/current is measured at RMS. But DC is measured in either Peak or Maximum Bellum.

ac or dc - which is more dangerous

We know, V (peak) = 1.4142 * V (RMS) That is why if a person is shocked at 220V in DC, he will be shocked at 220V. But if a person is shocked at 220V in AC, he will be shocked at a maximum of 1.4142 * 220V = 311V. And the 311V is definitely bigger than the 220. That is why it is said here that AC is more dangerous than DC.
